THE WORST SCI-FI PREQUEL EVER!

Live-action short treatment

Fade from black.  Opening credits displayed supered on starfield.  Once credits have finished, pan down to a retro-style space station, probably with open trusses and solar panels.  An aerodynamic shuttle approaches and docks.
Cut to docking by on the space station.  A number of passengers exit the shuttle carrying suitcases.  The last is Earl Logan, of the Ministry of Space.  He wanders about for a bit, takes some pictures with a futuristic camera, then asks a nearby flight attendant if she knows anything about the Festus ships.  He's led off to a nearby docking bay.
Cut to Earl Logan entering a docking bay (which looks suspiciously like a dressed-up domestic garage.  A number of technicians swarm around a futuristic spaceship which itself looks a startling amount like a domestic automobile.
A person in uniform greets Earl Logan and informs him the this is the Festus, a new ship commissioned by the United States Space Command.  It is the next in a long line of proud ships, including a number of made up Festuses that discovered the canary island, fought in the battle of Guadalcanal, etc.  Earl Logan is most impressed.
Some dialogue goes back and forth and indicates the Earl Logan will be joining the crew of this ship for its first flight.
Cut to a few days later, and the Festus is about ready to leave.  Earl Logan asks how his Rolls-Royce warp engine is doing.  Captain Proxima tells him to shut up.  He and the pilot, Leuitenant Centauri, run down the checklist.  When they get done, the ship pulls out of the hangar.
Captain Proxima informs the crew that they are about to make the jump to hyperspace.
He presses the big red button, and...
    Nothing happens.
They do a little more trouble-shooting, then finally get underway.
Cut to a scene of Logan speaking on a cell-phone to somebody high-up in the British government.  He says he can't her the other very well; the doppler effect was doing something wierd to his voice.
Later on, the Festus drops out of hyperspace.  Logan asks what's going on, and Captain Proxima informs him that they're going down to a planet to collect some soil samples.  They climb into the back of the ship, then appear on the surface of a planet.
The planet has large red rocks on it, and the time is afternoon (from the position of the sun).
Captain Proxima, Leiutenant Centari, and Earl Logan climb a rock.  What are we doing? the Earl wants to know.  There's no dirt up here...
They reach the top of the rock and the Lieutenant pulls a gun on the Earl, telling him to stay still.  Captain Proxima does something with the rock and pulls out some important device, there it's known as TECH.  It's obvious I haven't put much thought into this whole thing.
After a while of Captain Proxima messing around with this TECH, the Earl attacks the Lieutenant and trains the gun on Captain Proxima.
I see I wasn't the only one here with nefarious intents on this planet, say's the Earl.
They start fighting, and a bunch of brawls break out, which will be hard to film on those rocks, but we'll survive.
This all stops when a whole buch of lights appears (how we'll get that up to the rocks, I have no idea).  A bunch of screaming, drama, etc.  Maybe the light talks, I don't know.
Anyhoo, eventually the light goes away and so do the main characters.  They beam back to the ship and have an epic battle with the light befor e leaving the system.
Cut to Captain Proxima having a discussion with an Admiral over a video phone link.  A scary presence of light exists out there...we have no idea where it originated...what it is...why it hates us so much.
Just as they are talking about the mission, pull out to show that Captain Proxima is in a jail cell.  Oh, so much for him.  Fade to end credits.
